Meet Doctor Richard E. Stockelman

Dr. Stockelman came to Colorado Springs in 1993. Since then, he has been instrumental in the development and implementation of sports medicine programs at the high school and collegiate levels. His special interests include simple and complex problems of the shoulder as well as:

  • Sports Medicine
  • Total Joint Replacements
  • Shoulder and Knee Surgery
  • Shoulder Replacement Surgery
  • General Orthopedics
  • Trauma and Fracture Care

Angela Merckx, ATC

Medical Assistant to Richard E. Stockelman, MD.

Angela has worked for Dr. Stockelman since 2014. She is a Certified Athletic Trainer with a Masters in Health and Exercise Science from Furman University. Prior to working with Dr. Stockelman, she worked as a high school Athletic Trainer for 14 years with Liberty High School and Colorado Springs Christian High School.


Cathy Miller

Medical Assistant to Richard E. Stockelman, MD.

Cathy "Cat" moved to Colorado Springs in 1992 with her husband and two sons. In 1994 she started working for Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group as a medical transcriptionist while the group was downtown on Cascade Avenue. She took a 9-year break in Santa Fe, NM where she became a personal trainer and cycle instructor. Missing Colorado, Cat moved back, returning to Colorado Springs Orhtopaedic Group in 2014 as a medical scribe for Dr. Stockelman. She and her husband enjoy the beautiful Colorado outdoors, their kids and their granddaughter.

Shayla is originally from West Virginia, but has been a native to Colorado Springs for the last 10 years. She began working at Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group in June of 2016 with 8 years of medical experience. If you ever have the chance to talk to Shayla on the phone, you will feel the warmth of her smile and the optimism in her voice. She treats every patient like they are the only thing that matters in that moment.

When Shayla isn't making everyone else around her smile, you can find her drinking coffee, baking and spending time with her two boys.
